John E. Barrett,

Vice Chairman
As the cofounder (along with Louis
Bowman) of Bowman,
Barrett & Associates Inc. (BB&A), John E. Barrett, PE,
SE serves as the Vice Chairman of the organization. With over 50
years of experience, he has earned accolades for his innovative
and effective approach to railroad bridge design projects. Known
as an authority on structural issues, Mr. Barrett is highly regarded
in the industry for his knowledge and expertise.
Mr. Barrett earned a BSCE degree from the University of Illinois
and is an active member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association.
He was instrumental in establishing the Bowman, Barrett & Associates
Outstanding Scholar Award, presented each year to an exceptional
engineering student at the University studying either transportation
or structural engineering.
Mr. Barrett has always believed in promoting the profession to
future engineers. He serves as a technical advisor for the Benito
Juarez High School in Chicago and donates his time and expertise
to students through mock-interviews and discussions on engineering.
Bowman, Barrett & Associates Inc. adopted the Benito Juarez
High School through the Education to Careers (ETC) Program.
He is a licensed structural engineer in Illinois and a registered
professional engineer in 16 states, including Illinois.
Mr. Barrett is actively involved with many industry organizations
